Staffordshire 3 Peaks Challenge

From Flash to bang!

You’ll have certainly heard of the National 3 Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon), you may have heard of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge; some of you may have completed one or both before.

Here’s the Staffordshire 3 Peaks Challenge, and it's not a poor relation!

If you’re considering a charity challenge event, if you’re training for a similar 3 Peaks Challenge event, whether you’re preparing for another endurance event or if you just want a different challenge experience, then this is the event for you and/or your team.

I can also offer this as a trail running experience – the perfect curtain raiser if you’re training for an ultra-marathon or similar endurance event.

No driving between the hills required this is all completed on foot between Staffordshire’s 3 highest mountains – Oliver Hill 509 metres above sea level (ASL), Cheeks Hill 518 metres ASL and The Roaches 501 metres ASL.

All 3 ‘peaks’ are 500 metres or more ASL therefore qualify as mountains!

We will begin close to the village of Flash in North Staffordshire; Flash is the highest village in Britain at 462 metres ASL, making the climb up to Oliver Hill (our first peak) very comfortable as a gentle starter for 10.

Then its approximately 60 minutes across country to Cheeks Hill (the highest point in Staffordshire) for a well-earned tea break and breath-taking panoramic views for miles across the Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire borders.  We then gently weave down through waterfalls and picturesque countryside for a lunch stop at Gradbach Mill.

After lunch we commence the hike up to our final and most impressive peak – The Roaches – renowned for its impressive wind-carved grit-stone rock crops a favourite with the climbing and bouldering community and a reminder of our proximity to the Peak District.

Having touched the trig-point stone and snapped the final peak ‘selfie’ we will wind our way down and back up to the welcome sight Flash and our start point.

This is a challenging but very rewarding experience and will be even more enhanced by a good level of fitness.
